Weekly Message

This week, we held Year 10 Parents’ Evening on Tuesday. Thank you to the huge majority of parents who attended this evening.

Next week, Cams Hill pupils will be performing in the first round of Rock Challenge at the Guildhall in Portsmouth at 6.30pm. Good luck to all of the pupils involved in this event and thank you to Miss Weston and other staff for all of their help.

On Monday and Tuesday, Year 9 are having their school leavers’ jabs. There are a few outstanding slips – if you wish your child to have this jab and haven’t returned the slip yet there is still time. Please bring it in on Monday and hand it to the school’s Medical Officer, Mrs Haines.

It is also a busy week for Year 11 pupils who have mock examinations throughout the week. Good luck to all of those involved.

Finally, the weather is predicted to be extremely cold next week, with temperatures forecast to be below freezing. With this in mind, please remind your children to wrap up warm to protect themselves from the elements.

Outstanding achievement in the IMC!

The UKMT Intermediate Maths Challenge results came back last week and around a half of those entered have achieved enough points for an award. Best in school was David Chen (Year 11). Shayne Wood (Year 7) also scored over 100 points and both boys have therefore qualified for the Intermediate Mathematical Olympiad on 15th March, showing exceptional achievements. Best in Year 10 was Joseph Davies and best in Year 9 was Robyn Manners. Joseph Davies and Joseph Townsend-Bilton (Year 10) also scored sufficient points to proceed to the next round of the competition called the Pink Kangaroo, which also takes place on 15th March. 34 pupils in total have achieved a certificate (see names below), of which 5 were gold and 10 were silver. Well done to you all.

Gold: David Chen, Alex Thomas (Year 11), Joseph Davies, Joseph Townsend Bilton (Year 10) and Shayne Wood (Year 7).
Silver: Ben Cross, Harry Collins, Fatimah Alkadhimi, Claire Roche (Year 11), Seth Anderson, Evan Goldstone, Harry Williams, Chris Vickers (Year 10), Robyn Manners and Elise Kerens (Year 9).

Practice Team Maths Challenge

We took eight able mathematicians from Years 8 and 9 to Portchester School on 2 February to have a practice run of the UKMT Team Maths Challenge. This was a great opportunity to experience the different rounds of the competition, solving lots of maths puzzles in the process. The pupils involved were: Elise Kerens, Freddie Gore, Harvey Newton and Ethan Vandra (Year 9) and Hussain Khedapa, Cordelia Towers, Isaac Smith and Kiera Davies (Year 8). Ten teams took part and our teams finished 4th and 8th in the competition. It was an enjoyable day and most were eager to participate in future Maths challenges offered.
