Weekly Message

Welcome back to the start of a new year- hopefully, you were all able to have an enjoyable and restful holiday.

On Monday 18th December, Marcus MacCormack in Year 8 had his hair shaved as part of the “Brave the Shave” campaign to support MacMillan Cancer Research. In total, Marcus raised over £800, which is an incredible effort on his part.

Also on Monday 18th December, the school hosted the annual Senior Citizens’ Matinee. Twenty five senior citizens from local care homes, ranging from one man in his seventies to a lady who was 102, were invited into school. They were entertained by Year 7 singers and the upper-school soloists, who performed Christmas carols for them; they were given a meal; and all received party bags and raffle prizes. The Year 8 pupils raised over £900 to fund this event and Lucketts provided free transport for the visitors. Twelve Year 8 pupils helped on the day. A huge thank you to all of the Year 8 pupils, the Key Stage 3 pastoral team (Mrs Waters, Miss Allen and Mrs Brooker), Mr Cleary and Mr Charles for organising the music, Mrs Francis and her team for catering, and all of the staff who helped out on the day. As always, it was an amazing day.

Following on from this, Mrs Ellis (Head of English) has initiated a pen pal scheme where our pupils will write to residents of local care homes. More news to follow in subsequent weekly messages.

There is going to be some disruption this half-term as we are resurfacing the hard court area on the north side of the school (by the A27). This week, diggers are taking up the old surface before beginning the process of putting down a new one. However, we have been able to open up the tennis courts to provide pupils with space to play games at break and lunchtime. These surfaces were re-laid over the last half-term and are looking great.

As a slight negative, we have been contacted by Strand Harbour Securities Ltd, who manage the Cams Hall estate. They are concerned that people are continuing to use the estate as a drop off in the morning and have asked us to remind parents that it is private property. There are also concerns that the number of cars performing u-turns in the morning is dangerous. Please consider alternative drop-off points.
