Weekly Message
Week 14 – ‘Some people are worth melting for.’ Olaf
What an incredibly busy time of year this is for us all at Cams Hill. Busy but utterly amazing too with the number of celebration activities and events happening for us and our wider school community.
We’ve taken part this Year in Wave 105 Mission Christmas https://planetradio.co.uk/wave-105/charity/events/wave-mission-christmas/ and are so grateful to all who contributed presents for us to deliver to their centre earlier this week. Mrs Holden and a wonderful group of pupils represented Cams Hill School with incredible positivity and generosity.
This week it’s been Christmas dinner and our two Christmas concerts. The Senior Leadership Team along with prefects served up Christmas Dinner to over 350 pupils in a fabulously festive atmosphere! It was so lovely to see so many pupils sitting and eating together. Our two concerts have been the first show-case event for our completely new music department. What events they have been! Spectacular singing, brilliant participation from huge numbers of pupils and an atmosphere of merriment and celebration that all involved have been so very proud of. Well done to all pupils involved and thank you to all parents and carers who came to support them.
A few key messages to clarify a couple of frequently asked questions from over the past week.
End of term arrangements – we finish next Thursday, 21 December 2017, which you will already be aware is a non-uniform day in aid of Rock Challenge. You can find out more about Rock Challenge by visiting www.rockchallenge.co.uk. Pupils are asked to bring in £1.00 to wear non-school uniform. Tutors will be accepting this money from the beginning of the week and ideally we would like this in by Wednesday 20 December 2017; however, pupils will be able to make payment on the day.
- Pupils will be leaving site between 1215 and 1230 depending on when their specific tutor group is authorised to go by senior staff in a staggered exit.
- We welcome all pupils and staff back to school on Thursday 04 January 2018 on a Week A. This is a change to the published calendar. There are reasons around teaching and curriculum time which mean that if we come back on the same week as we finish next week, we are able to ensure coverage of all subjects within the two week timetable appropriately.
- Pupils will have an ‘extraordinary’ tutor time from 0830-0840 on Thursday 04 January 2018 to receive new timetables. There have been some curriculum changes due to staff roles and responsibility changes which come into effect from January 2018 which may affect timetables.
Thank you in anticipation of your continued support. I wish you all a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.

Christmas Concert
Over 100 pupils took part in the Christmas Concert performances this week at Cams Hill. Performances ranged from vocal and instrumental solos to small ensembles, concert band and the Year 7 Choir, Show Choir and Upper School Singers. The Hall had been decorated beautifully with lights, tinsel and sparkling snowflakes, produced by the Art Department.
There was a very festive feel to each performance which included a sing-a-long of Merry Christmas by Slade, sung by and enjoyed by many parents and staff!
The solo performances were performed brilliantly by pupils from Years 9 to 11. Hameem Khan treated us to an exciting Jewish Dance on the violin and David Chen joined Mr Cleary in a piano duet. The singers, Ella White, Kimberly Chitifa, Amelia Burgess, Ruby Jermyn, Rem Rem Ceballo, Ellie Pound, Katie Wilson, Jessica Fox, Lily Carter, Lewis Gunter and Zoe Elliott all gave confident, expressive and fantastic performances which were really appreciated by the audience. Also, huge thanks to the house band, Tom Keeping (drums), David Chen (piano) and Joe Garland-Johnson (guitar). The massed choir added particular energy to the end of the concert, sending the audience off in full festive mood and covered in snow!!
Happy Christmas
