Weekly Message

Over the Christmas holiday, Fleur Ravenhill in Year 8 had 34cm of hair cut off to raise money to fight cancer. This is something Fleur decided to do herself and she has raised over £800 so far (and is confident she will end up raising her target of £1000). A phenomenal fund-raising effort from one of our pupils to help other people. Please see the article below for further details.

Last night, the school held the first of two evenings to help Year 9 pupils make decisions about which GCSE subjects they would be interested in studying next year. Representatives from local colleges and some employers ran sessions to help pupils and parents think about life after Cams Hill School. Thank you to Mr Purslow and Miss Jenns who organised it, and to all of the parents and pupils who attended.

Last week, we highlighted the pen pal scheme which is going to build links with residents of local care homes. This is being set up by Emily Ginn in Year 10, and Mrs Ellis (Head of English). Pupils should see either of them if they are interested.

Finally, can we please draw your attention to the rules on make-up for Years 9, 10 and 11. Pupils are allowed to wear “skin coloured base foundation, very light mascara or clear lip balm. This make-up must not be noticeable to an observer. Eyebrows are expected to be natural in shape and colour.” The rules regarding make-up were amended following pupil feedback and are on the school’s website. This term, there have been a few instances where make-up has been too obvious. We would ask for your help in reminding your children of the school’s expectations.

Fleur’s Charity Haircut

In November, Fleur (8L1) decided that she wanted to cut and donate her hair to the Little Princess Trust. The Little Princess Trust is a charity that provides real hair wigs, free of charge, to children across the UK and Ireland that have lost their own hair through cancer treatment.

On 22 December, Fleur had the cut and donated the 34cm to the charity.

Fleur also has a just giving page and has, to date, raised a fantastic £820 of her £1000 target. We have no doubt Fleur will succeed in achieving this target.

Chess Club Winner

Congratulations to George Armitage (8H) for winning the Chess Club tournament which took place before Christmas.

Anyone who would like to test their chess might against George or just come to play or learn chess is welcome along to GEOG2 during Friday lunchtime.

Mr N Bayley, Geography Teacher
