Weekly Newsletter 1 December 2017
1st December 2017
Weekly Message
It’s December already and Mr Hudson’s “Kindness Calendar” has been shared with all tutor groups. Each day, the calendar will encourage pupils to carry out specific acts of kindness.
Many pupils have also been bringing in presents for “Mission Christmas” a charitable activity where pupils bring in unwrapped gifts to be given to children living in poverty. If you still wish to contribute, the gift needs to be suitable for children and young people aged 0-18 years. You can drop this gift off at Cams Hill School reception and we will then deliver all the gifts to Wave 105 who will distribute the gifts. Cams Hill School will also be a public drop-off point for the initiative. The presents we are looking for are the same as you would buy for your own children such as gift sets, board games and small toys. Organisers always have fewer gifts for teenage boys (11-18) and babies less than 12 month so any gifts for these groups would be much appreciated. There is not a set value to your gifts, but the recommendation is between £5-10. The presents must not be wrapped and still be in the original packaging so that the organisers know what is inside and can allocate accordingly.
Next week we have Year 11 Parents’ Evening on Tuesday 5 December. This is an important evening for all of our Year 11 pupils, who will receive back their mock exam results as well as their latest predicted grades.
The following week, the school’s Christmas Concert will be held (on Wednesday 13 December and Thursday 14 December).
Thursday 14 December is also the pupils’ Christmas Lunch. If you wish your child to have a Christmas Lunch, please remember to complete the slip attached to Mrs Francis’ letter dated 9 November 2017.

Year 7 & 9 Cross Country Championships
St Swithun’s School Winchester
Tuesday 28th November 2017
On this brisk, chilly afternoon 16 pupils represented Cams Hill School in the Hampshire Cross Country Championships at St Swithun’s School, Winchester.
Year 7 girls were first, finishing Catrin Gibbard in 30th, Sophie Grist 65th, Emily Blake 80th and Ella Kurr in 96th. Year 7 boys finished with Ben Gibbard in 11th, Tim Czura 29th, Chris Lovett 54th and Theo Crichton-Campbell 56th.
After a group huddle on the mini bus to warm up, next up was year 9 girls. They finished Milly Laing 11th, Gracie Coleman 28th, Emily Grist 51st and sadly Milly Thomas-Willcocks forced to stop with an ankle injury.
Last up, year 9 boys. Matt Hickman finished 6th, Seamus Morrison 16th, Elliot Evans 22nd and Jack Spencer 59th. Excellent sprint finishing enabled the boys year 9 team to clinch 3rd place overall, a small handful of places ahead of Portsmouth Grammar School!

Senior Team Maths Challenge – Alton College
We took a team to compete in the Senior Team Maths Challenge on Wednesday at Alton College. There were 18 schools competing and a large number (15) were sixth form teams!
We came 11th overall which is a brilliant achievement. We also got a special mention for finishing towards the top in the middle round of the competition!
The four pupils involved were: David Chen, Harry Collins, Alex Thomas and Shayne Wood. Congratulations to these pupils for showing good teamwork and demonstrating excellent mathematical skills.
David takes part in the follow-on round of the individual competition on Friday 1st December.
