Weekly Message – Issue 37

Credit Averages For This Week

Year 7: 5        Year 8: 4        Year 9: 3        Year 10: 1.5

We have had the most wonderful time since our last weekly message was published.

Firstly … we had the Year 11 Prom and the pupils didn’t fail to impress!  Looking beautiful, smart, relaxed and happy, they enjoyed their last occasion together as Class of 2019.  The atmosphere was lovely; in the warm evening sunshine, pupils, parents/carers and staff celebrating together the end of an era in style – enjoying a catch-up, good food and a good dance on the dance floor.  It was the most wonderful evening.

As we say farewell to Year 11, on Tuesday, we welcomed into school Year 5 pupils from local primary schools and then our future Year 7 pupils for their Transition Days on Thursday and Friday.

To experience the variety of exciting opportunities available at Cams Hill School, 220 Year 5 visitors took part in Masterclasses delivered by teachers here at school.  They carried out a chemical reaction in Science, designed and performed a score in Music, used the laser cutter in Technology to design and make a paper lantern, in Art they produced a scenario in comic strip format that will be put together in a group storyboard on ‘A day in the life of …’, they played tennis and choreographed and performed film music inspired Dance in PE and creating 3D drawings in ‘SketchUp’ in Creative iMedia.  The feedback has been extremely positive from all involved and we very much look forward to running further Masterclasses next year.

With nervous excitement, Year 6 pupils arrived on Thursday as part of our transition programme. Supported by an exceptional team of Year 8 pupil buddies and a team of tutors, Miss Hatt (Head of Year 7), Mrs Braisher and Mrs Hayle (Assistant Heads of Year) guided the pupils through their first real experience of life as a pupil at Cams Hill School.

It is always the case that those nervous smiles transform to beaming grins as the pupils conclude their time with us, with a sense of familiarity with the school ahead of the start of the Autumn Term in September.  The feeling of readiness take a little longer for some; our enhanced transition programme offers the additional support needed with our absolute aim being for all pupils to enjoy their time in school with us.

The Year 7 team very much look forward to our final transition day which is taking place next week on 12 July 2019.

Our Sports Day is fast approaching – please keep a look out for the letter that will be heading to parents/carers soon relaying important information for pupils to take note of ahead of the day.

Finally, the time has come for our superstar performers to hit the stage and present ‘We will Rock You’ with performances taking place on Wednesday 10 July, Thursday 11 July and Friday 12 July. If you haven’t yet purchased your tickets, please do so and come along and enjoy a fabulous evening of musical entertainment.

A Trip to East and West Wittering

Apparently, the sun always shines on the righteous, and it certainly did on our lovely and lively but focussed and purposeful, Year 8s when we headed off to the seaside on Monday and Wednesday this week.

At the Witterings, the village and the beach, pupils conducted data collections in order to find out whether the village meets the needs of local people and whether the beach and spit should be protected. The write-up, which will stress the importance of justification and evaluation, will form their last piece of written work in Geography.

The Geography Department’s great gratitude goes to everyone who gave up their time to come along and a big well done to Year 8!

Kindness at Cams Hill

Care Home Visit

On Monday, 10 of our amazing Year 7 ‘Kindness Ambassadors’ joined the residents of Carleen Care Home as they enjoyed an afternoon of live music. The pupils sat with the residents in the sunny garden and enjoyed the variety of songs on offer; even singing a few songs and getting to their feet and entertaining the residents with their fantastic dance moves! It was lovely to see the residents singing along, swaying their arms, with big smiles on their faces.

Thanks go to Miss Criglington and Miss Burnett who accompanied the pupils. It is our hope that more pupils and staff will get involved in more regular trips to the care home building our relationship with them.

Crisp packets

Yet again the number of crisp packets being recycled is amazing with some pupils collecting every crisp packet from every family member and we have had two bin bags handed in for Illustrious House full of crisp packets. The result for last week is as follows:

  • 1st Illustrious
  • 2nd Warrior
  • 3rd Invincible
  • 4th Endeavour

Please don’t forget the battery recycling as well as the crisps and bottle tops.

Foodbank

The foodbank house competition is up and running with tutors having cards to record the number of items being handed in to the foodbank box in reception. Each item brought in earns house points, so please keep donating.

Year 6

Year 6 have already got involved with our kindness initiative during their Transition Days with the Kindness Graffiti competition running again. Luke Storkey, graffiti artist, will be working with the winners on the first Enrichment Day of the new year, turning designs into a permanent kindness mural in the school.
