Weekly Message – Issue 32

Credit Averages For This Week

Year 7: 8.79.      Year 8: 10.77.        Year 9: 5.58.      Year 10: 4.03.

It has been a short half-term but a fun-packed and busy one!

We hope that you have enjoyed reading our weekly message which aims to share the activities and experiences taking place amongst our school community and to celebrate contribution and achievement.

This week, the GCSE exams have continued – we wish our Year 11 pupils a restful half-term week around the time they will invest in their preparations for the exams taking place after half-term.

Parents/Carers have been sent a letter regarding the Year 10 Examinations which take place from Wednesday 19 June 2019. Subject teachers advise pupils on what to prepare ahead of the exams and provide materials to support them with their revision.

Next half-term, we look forward to a number of key events such as Sports Day, the Transition Days where we welcome our new Year 7 for September 2019 to the school, the House Rewards Afternoon, a Year 8 trip to The Witterings and the school’s production of “We Will Rock You” … to name but a few, with more information to follow.

We wish all our pupils, staff, parents and carers an enjoyable Bank Holiday weekend and half-term.

“Love food, hate waste”

On Monday the Design and Technology Department launched two competitions under the title “Love food, hate waste!”

Year 8 Whisked Sponge Technical Challenge

Pupils have been invited to create an interesting signature dessert using the whisking method along with other culinary skills.

Entries can be in the form of a description (Marks and Spencer Advert style) – “Not just any whisked sponge but …” or as a drawn annotated sketch (British Bake-Off style).

Pupils will be given an hour and half to cook, decorate and present their dish under the watchful eye of the judges, with results to follow.

The Great Cams Hill Sewing Bee

The Great British Sewing Bee has inspired many people to start reusing and recycling clothes.  Years 7,8 and 9 pupils have been given the opportunity to upcycle a shirt and give it a new lease of life.

To inspire participants in this competition, the Design and Technology Department are running three workshops on:

  • Monday 3 June 1515-1615
  • Monday 10 June 1515-1615
  • Monday 17 June 1515-1615

Pupils will need to come to the workshop having sourced their shirt and with some ideas of how they want to customise it and give it that new lease of life.

Hampshire Athletics Associations Track Knock Out Year 8/9 boys Round 2

After finishing second in the track knockout Round 1 at Cams Hill, we qualified to go through to Round 2 at The Mountbatten Centre.

Eight boys represented the school against tough athletic opponents, from schools where athletics is their forte.

Standout performance from both Ben Gibbard and Elliot Franckeiss, finishing 2nd in their 1500m.

Fantastic results and well-deserved.  We are unlikely to qualify to the final due to the calibre of athletes from other schools simply being that much faster than us!

Kindness at Cams Hill School

On Tuesday afternoon, 19 of our amazing ‘Kindness Ambassadors’ spent the afternoon with the residents of the Carleen Care Home treating them to a ‘pamper session’, with hand massages and nail painting on offer.

After our visit to Lush in Portsmouth, we were armed with goodies donated by Lush for us to use with the residents, who couldn’t wait to finish their lunch and enjoy the company of our pupils.  Some of the residents even decided they should be going out to show off their new nails!!!

It is a joy to watch the relationship our pupils have with the residents, who are clearly delighted to have them there, and to see the smiles on everyone faces.  As the pupils were getting ready to leave, the residents wanted to know when we were going to be visiting again!

Thank you to everyone involved in the setting up of these trips which make a difference in the local community and we plan to be visiting again next half term.
