Weekly Message 245 – 22 November 2024
22nd November 2024
The safety of our pupils is our highest priority. The morning drop-off and afternoon pick-up are particularly busy times at the front of the school, and our duty staff work diligently to ensure pupils arrive and leave safely. We kindly ask parents and carers to also exercise vigilance when driving onto the school site. In particular, we request that those using the entrance to turn their cars around to avoid the queue in school refrain from doing so as it can disrupt traffic flow and poses a risk to children. Thank you for your cooperation and understanding as we work together to keep our children safe.
We remind pupils, parents, and carers that the school is closed to pupils on Monday 25 November 2024 as it is an INSET Day.
Calling Class of 2024 – Certificate Collection
We invite our Class of 2024 into school on Tuesday 3 December 2024* to collect GCSE/Key Stage 4 certificates which will be available in Reception from 1530 to 1730. Coursework produced in Art, Photography and Graphics will also be available for collection at this time.
If you have a sibling at the school and would like them, or your parent/carer, to collect your certificates/coursework on your behalf, please complete the slip that accompanied the letter sent to you on 12 November 2024. As well as the slip, parents/carers will need to bring photo identification.
* Please note that collection of either work and/or certificates after 3 December 2024 can only be arranged by prior appointment with the school. Certificates are retained by the school for 12 months; thereafter they may be disposed of by the school.
We do hope as many of you as possible can join us on 3 December; it will be lovely to catch up with you and hear how you are settling at college or what you have gone on to do since leaving Cams Hill School.
Get on your Bike with Attendance Streaks
Thank you to Solent Cycles who have very kindly donated a ‘Cube’ mountain bike for a pupil in the school to win this academic year with ‘attendance streaks’. More information will be sent to parents/carers and pupils next week, but from Monday 2 December we are launching a school-wide competition to reward consistent attendance. Pupils will be entered into a prize draw based on their consecutive days of attendance. This exciting initiative features amazing prizes, including the mountain bike.
Here’s how the attendance streaks will work:
- For every streak of 15 consecutive days of attendance, pupils earn one ticket for the prize draw.
- For every streak of 25 consecutive days, pupils earn four tickets.
- For every streak of 50 consecutive days, pupils earn 10 tickets.
- For every streak of 80 consecutive days, pupils earn 15 tickets.
The more consistent the attendance streak, the more chances to win! If a pupil is absent, a new streak begins, motivating them to build another run of perfect attendance. In the Summer Term, before Year 11 pupils leave, we’ll hold a special prize draw to celebrate the school community’s dedication to attendance. Good luck everyone.
Educake – Chance to Win a Chromebook
At some point next week, a pupil will answer the two-billionth question on Educake. Educake are giving away a Chromebook to whoever happens to be that lucky pupil!
All they have to do is log in to Educake and answer questions. They can answer more questions than their weekly homework using the Revision Wizard to increase their chances!
Mission Christmas
We are proud to announce that we will be supporting Mission Christmas (Cash for Kids) this year.
Cams Hill School has a drop off point in Reception for any donations our community can offer. Donation ideas from Mission Christmas can be found here and are split into age groups. All items donated need to be in new condition, in original packaging and unwrapped.
We ask that any donations are dropped at school by 1200 on Wednesday 18 December 2024.
Thank you in advance for your generosity and support it is very much appreciated.
Mission Christmas
Christmas for every child. That’s our mission.
Winter is drawing in, and cost-of-living pressures are still weighing heavily on families across the UK.
For them, Christmas is a time of stark choices. Choices between heating their homes or buying food. Choices that strip away the magic of Christmas. No child should worry that Santa won’t come.
Fareham and Gosport Food Bank
Running alongside our Mission Christmas charity drive, we will also be taking donations for the Fareham and Gosport Food Bank. They desperately need the following items:
- UHT Milk
- Cereals
- Tinned meats
- Tinned vegetables
- Coffee
- Squash
- Sugar
- Jam
- Cup of soups
- Toilet rolls
- Toothpaste and toothbrushes
- Pasta
- Rice
- Biscuits/sweet treats
Unfortunately, we cannot take donations of any perishables such as fresh fruit and vegetables.
If you can contribute any of the essential items; they would be gratefully received. Each item donated will also earn pupil’s kindness points for their generosity.
Children in Need – Thank you!
On 15 November Cams Hill School held a non-school uniform day in support of Children in Need. We are incredibly proud to announce that the community raised over £950 in donations.
Thank you for your support in helping us raise funds for such an important charity.
UK Parliament Week
Next week Mr Dale, Miss Hughes and Mr Blackman are delivering assemblies with a focus on Democracy and Pupil Voice. This is to champion UK Parliament Week.
We will be promoting all things democracy in our lessons and during tutor time. Pupils have been voting for their favourite meal to be served at the Chef’s Pod next week and giving suggestions about how we can improve the school. If pupils use their voice or their vote in any way, we will award them a British Values positive behaviour point – there will be prizes for pupils who get the most points during the week.

MathsWatch and Educake
These are two online resources that we expect pupils to be accessing routinely with homework set by teachers and independently to support their progress in Maths, Science, and other subjects. We ask parents/carers to check in with their child to see whether they are accessing these resources routinely and to encourage the best use of them.
If there are issues with access, please bring this to the school’s attention as soon as possible so that we can help.
