A27 Cams  Hill Traffic Management Update

We have received the following information from Hampshire County Council.

Night-works will be carried out as part of the ongoing A27 Cams Hill Improvements Scheme from 11 to 15 December 2023 between the hours of 7pm and 6am for changes to all crossing points, there will be no traffic restrictions during this time and all noisy works will be completed prior to Midnight each night.

From the 3 January 24, both the eastbound and westbound lanes will be reduced to one lane between the junction of Downend Road and Shearwater Avenue and Delme Roundabout. These lane closures are necessary to carry out the final stages for the removal of the central reservation and to start phase two for the drainage and kerb works.

Further night works will also be carried out on the 3 & 4 January, which will require a full closure of Downend Road between 7pm and 6am

Our scheme webpage will be updated shortly with the latest information, where you can also find our diversion plan within the traffic management table once updated.

Year 11 Art/Graphics/Photography/Spanish Trip to Barcelona

At Cams Hill School we pride ourselves on the opportunities we offer pupils to enrich and extend their school experiences. On Friday 22 October 2023 we were all set for one such experience, taking 40 Year 11 pupils who study either Art, Graphics, Photography or Spanish to Barcelona, a city rich in cultural heritage. Luck was not on our side and a flight cancellation meant that we had to return to school, much to the disappointment of pupils, staff and families.

Thankfully our travel company were able to reschedule, and at a gruelling 0215 on Friday 1 December we met our coach and were off to Spain. Four filled days and three nights were ahead of us, 31 pupils and four members of staff staying in the small seaside city of Lloret de Mar.

The trip was filled with visits to museums and cathedrals, shopping and sightseeing, riding on some of the most thrill-seeking rollercoasters at one of Europe’s biggest theme parks and, of course, the chance to speak Spanish. There were also plenty of opportunities to photograph the hustle and bustle of Barcelona’s famous shopping street, Las Ramblas, and take in the amazing architectural works of Antoni Gaudi and Salvador Dali when we visited Sagrada Familia, Parc Guell, Girona and Figueres.

Pupils were fantastic and for some this was their first time abroad, on a plane, away from families and riding a rollercoaster! The weather was beautiful, the food was enjoyed by many, and Mr Rodriguez made the perfect tour guide as we cruised around the city.

Year 10 Geography Trip to Gunwharf Quays

Year 10 pupils visited Gunwharf Quays on Wednesday as it exemplifies several topics in human geography.  Pupils collected data for their Paper 3 Geography exam, aiming to answer the question, ‘How sustainable is Gunwharf Quays?’

Along with a visit up the Spinnaker Tower, pupils conducted visual surveys of sustainability and conservation features at eight points around the site.  Pupils will then have to justify all their research and presentation methods in their write-up. Year 10 were a credit to the school.  They worked hard and engaged brilliantly with their teachers.  They did Cams Hill proud. Well done Year 10.

Soul Band at Redlands School

Soul Band returned to Redlands Primary School this week and performed to their pupils and staff. The band sounded fantastic and had prepared some Christmas music to play! Soul Band followed their performance by running a workshop with the talented pupils at Redlands. What a band!

Volleyball

Commiserations to the Boys Yr 9/10 volleyball squad, outplayed by Portchester in their opening league match of the Hampshire Schools Volleyball Cup. The only way is up from here!

The Yr 9/10 Girls took to the court for their first tentative steps into 6 v 6 Volleyball. An excellent performance all round led to a 2:1 victory.

Lots of future potential in both squads!

Christmas Concert

Our sold-out Christmas Concert took place on Thursday 7 December. There was a wide range of performances, from a Rachmaninov piano prelude to our Year 7 guitarists performing the rock stalwart ‘Seven Nation Army’. There were also plenty of Christmas classics performed by each of our ensembles and solo singers, as well as some Christmas cracker jokes from our Year 11 pupil hosts.

We are very grateful for the hard work and talent of all the pupils who performed in the Christmas Concert and we thank all those who supported front of house and behind the scenes.
