Year 10 History Trip Operating Theatre ‘Live’
On Tuesday 12 March, pupils had the opportunity to visit a 19thCentury Operating Theatre to coincide with their studies in History around medicine in Britain.
The atmosphere of the museum offered a unique insight into the history behind medicine and surgery during this era and pupils were able to explore the dangers behind surgery. The interactive workshop gave pupils an insight into what it was like to be a medical practitioner and a patient in the 1800s, before the time of antiseptics and anaesthetics. They explored reasons why there was opposition to innovations at the time, namely antiseptics and anaesthetics, and how technology began to develop. It was a great day, slightly damp, but a good time was had by all.
Support for Parents/Carers – ‘What is Anxiety?’
Two workshops took place this week offering guided support and tips around understanding and coping with a child’s anxiety. Both workshops were extremely well attended and feedback from parents and carers, extremely positive. Watch this space for future workshops if these are of interest to you.
Pi Day
Members of the Maths Department were absolutely delighted with the response to the House competition celebrating ‘Pi Day’ with Pi related cakes and biscuits. We had 33 entries in total from Years 7-10, showing a variety of skills, creativity and a great deal of effort. Staff and pupils all got involved in casting their votes – picking out their favourites, as well as other categories such as Most Mathematical, Most Creative and Best Effort. Winners will be announced on Monday.
