We have had a very productive INSET Day today with teachers training in collaboration with colleagues from across Fareham and Gosport.
From reading strategies to engage young learners in English, developing assessment analysis to support better teacher/student practice and communication with parents/carers in Maths, input from the Royal Society of Chemistry in Science bridging the delivery between GCSE and ‘A’ Level, a workshop on safe practice in PE, focusing on SEN provision in Geography, GCSE moderation and building a Fareham and Gosport schools’ online gallery in Art to phonological awareness with the SEN teams.
The impact of having subject specialists working together to improve practice and ultimately the experience for pupils in the classroom cannot be underestimated and undoubtedly enriches the quality of education for all pupils in the local area. A particular thank you to all involved in the organisation that makes it the successful day that it always is.
Whole School Enrichment Day
Tuesday saw our second Enrichment Day of the academic year. These are organised termly to complement our Personal Development Learning and Citizenship (PDLC) Curriculum with pupils in each year group attending five sessions within a theme.
The focus for Year 7 this week was Charity allowing them to explore social issues such as poverty and homelessness, as well as how they can get involved in helping the community. Drugs and Alcohol and the harms associated with these substances was the theme for Year 8.
Year 9 pupils had the fantastic opportunity to become involved in Holocaust Memorial Day. The pupils listened to Dr Alasdair Richardson and learnt about the inhumanity of the Holocaust. Year 10 continued their Sex and Relationships Education, studying HIV, the development of Cancer, Parenting and Adoption and the harms of Pornography and as Year 11 move ever closer to concluding their time at Cams Hill School, they focused on the realities of society as they prepare to leave school, considering healthy relationships, social injustice and online use.
We are grateful to all staff and visitors who led sessions aiming to give pupils the knowledge, skills, and attributes they need to keep themselves healthy and safe and to prepare them for life and work in modern Britain.
Under 16 Boys’ National Volleyball Junior Cup
We are so proud of our Key Stage 4 volleyball team and their performance last weekend in the U16 Boys’ National Volleyball Junior Cup. They were placed an incredible 2nd in the pool of Tier 2. A huge well done to all members of the team and its supporters.
Theatre Trip – The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time
On Thursday 27 January, a number of Year 8 pupils and the GCSE Drama cohort set off to the Mayflower Theatre in Southampton to watch the National Theatre production of ‘The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-time’.
A brilliant time was had by all, and the pupils laughed, gasped and cheered their way through the performance. Our pupils were an absolute credit to the school, and we were thrilled to be able to offer them this opportunity. It was a brilliant experience to be back in the theatre!
