Thank you to all parents/carers who were able to join us for the virtual Year 7 Settling-In Evening and the Year 10 Tutor Parents’ Evening. Tutors welcomed the opportunity to meet with parents/carers to share highlights and areas for development as we conclude the first half of the Autumn Term.
We also thank parents and carers for the time they have taken to complete the questionnaire; hearing their perspective along with our pupil voice is important to us and informs our development work.
This week in school, we have begun promoting our ‘There is no planet B’ campaign where we encourage our school community to consider the environment and what we can all do as members of this community and the wider community to make a difference. Please read on to hear more about this as well as the way we are supporting a number of charities.
There is No Planet B
We are proud to be re-launching our “No Planet B” recycling scheme with staff and pupils this week and once again raising the importance of looking after our environment.
We are pleased to be recycling the following items and encourage all our #CamsCommunity to use the bins available:
Please do help us collect for Lush Cosmetics and recycle the plastic bags by using our deposit areas.
We also have exciting developments with Final Straw Solent and Gosport Wombles so we’ll keep you posted!
Run For Wave
Cams Hill is on a fundraising initiative to support Wave 105’s 1000 Faces campaign via a sponsored run which is taking place throughout October and November.
“It’s been a challenging 6 months to say the least and we know that local children really need our help due to the Covid 19 situation. Help with basic essentials like nappies and baby milk. Help to fund mental health workshops for teenagers or counselling for those children coming out of abusive environments.” Wave 105.2FM
Here in school, we have some very keen fundraising runners who have been racking up the sponsored miles (including staff!) in a bid to help reach the 52K target. We are proud that so many pupils are taking an interest and helping others!
Thank you to everyone involved so far and we hope our community is enjoying the outdoor running motivation! Pupils can speak with Mrs Holden (PE Department) if they want to know how they can get involved.
Acts of Kindness Food Bank
Cams Hill School will be collecting on behalf of Acts of Kindness starting next week. We are really keen to support this initiative and help our local community during these unprecedented times. Acts of Kindness are looking for the following items:
UHT milk
Jam/marmalade (spreads!)
Pot Noodles (used for individuals in the community who have difficult cooking)
Meals in tins (chilli con carne, minced beef, Spam, ham, hot dogs, corned beef)
Size 5 & 6 Nappies
Baby Milk Stage 1
Toilet paper
Condiments
Jelly/tinned puddings
Crisps/snacks
Desired:
Coffee
Shampoo/conditioner (even the hotel miniatures if people have them!)
We would be incredibly grateful for any donations and are hoping to make a real difference with the generosity of our #CamsCommunity. There is a box in our Main Reception that pupils (and parents/carers) can access to drop off donations. This will then be sent across to Acts of Kindness and form part of their supplies.
House Captains
We are looking to appoint House Captains for each of our four houses: Warrior, Illustrious, Endeavour and Invincible. If there are any Year 10 and 11 pupils interested in being a House Captain, please can they write a paragraph explaining why they feel they would be a good House Captain and send it to Mrs Holden lholden@camshill.com as soon as they can.
What House Challenges Can Pupils Take Part In?
There are four house challenges on offer at present.
- Wave 105 1000 Faces – we would really like our families to get behind is the Wave105 1000 faces shared above. To take part, you need to run some sponsored miles which pupils can do after school and outside school with their family. This also earns house points.
- Create a Costume for a chosen character – this challenge has been organised by the Drama Department
- Crack the Code – this challenge is open to pupils in Year 7, 8 and 9
- The Art Challenge – to design our new food donation box.
Pupils can speak with their tutors who have information about all these challenges. Remember points mean prizes!!!!!!
Netball
If there are any netball players out there who would love to play matches in the evening, we have information about two teams that may be of interest:
- The Devils Netball Club – this club trains at Cams Hill School on Tuesday evenings with Year 7 from 1800 to 1845 and pupils in Years 8, 9, 10 and 11 from 1845 to 2030. Please see Mrs Holden in PE for more details.
- The Gosport Gators – this club is open to players in Year 3 through to Year 11 and train in Alverstoke, Gosport. Please contact: Ggnc_headcoach@outlook.com.
