It has been another great week, here at Cams Hill School.

On Tuesday, we welcomed the parents/carers to meet with the tutors during our Year 7 Settling-in evening. We hope parents/carers found the evening insightful, tutors were certainly pleased to share how well pupils have been settling-in and were keen to address queries.

The pupils’ ‘WOW’ work really shone along the main corridor and they were very proud to show their parents/carers what they had been up to in class and what they feel they have achieved academically so far this year. We hope you had a chance to fill in our parent questionnaire and leave us any feedback

Thank you to all the parents and carers able to join us and for offering their feedback about the transition process and experiences so far – we look forward to seeing parents/carers again at the next Year 7 Parents’ Evening on 30 June 2020 where they will be able to meet with each of the subject teachers.

Our first School Council meeting of the year took place on Thursday; an integral part of our Pupil Voice agenda. With representatives from across the school community, pupils can voice their opinions and have their views considered in decisions which have an impact on them. Please read below to hear more about the meeting.

Also, on Thursday, the school showed its support for better Mental Health by acknowledging ‘World Mental Health Day’. As well as discussing how we can all take care of our mental health and wellbeing, pupils were invited to wear a piece of yellow ribbon in support of the charity ‘Youngs Minds’ and their #helloyellow campaign initiated by one of our ABC (Anti-bullying Collective) Ambassadors.

School Council 2019/2020

On Thursday 10 October, James Murphy (Head Boy), and Ella White (Head Girl) chaired our School Council Meeting supported by the Mrs Williams (Chair of Governors) and Miss Kendall and Mr Anderson (Assistant Heads of Year) and the Deputy Head Boys and Girls.

Barney, the school PAT dog and his handler also joined us, to share with the group the role Barney is undertaking in school with our pupils. Along with updates regarding the building work that has taken place over the summer and the eco strategy driven as an initiative this year, pupils had plenty to talk about and take back to their tutor groups for further discussion.

As always there were lots of questions raised by representatives and James and Ella did a fantastic job chairing their first official meeting. We will keep you updated as the year progresses.

The RuckSack Project 2019 Portsmouth

If you are able to, don’t forget to support our Rucksack Project – there is a donation box in Reception.

The project is now in its 6th year and has currently collected over 40,000 donations and rucksacks for the homeless community.

Bring along your donation to pompey in the Community, next to pfc on Saturday November 30th between 10am and 2pm. Your donations will then be taken away to be distributed to the homeless by numerous organisations, we will have representatives and managers from various soup kitchens, churches, outreach and organisations there on the day for you to chat with and find out how they work.

The idea is simple, if you can find an old rucksack and fill it with essential items that would benefit a homeless person, such as a hat, gloves, socks, toiletries, long-life food…..etc.

If you can’t find a rucksack or this is beyond your budget, we welcome single donations.

Toiletries – wipes, lip balm, deodorant, toothpaste, toothbrush, comb, soap.
Food items – any tins of food, biscuits, cereal bars, dried packets, such as noodles, rice, pasta. Some foods will go in the rucksacks and some will be distributed so meals can be cooked for the homeless.
Clothing – coats only please, no bags of loose clothing. Boots in good condition, all sizes.
Sleeping bags – any sleeping bags, new or second-hand.

See our facebook page – the rucksack project Portsmouth 2019 for more details.
