Credit Averages For This Week

Thank you to the Parents and Carers of Year 11 pupils who were able to join us on Tuesday at the second Year 11 Parents’ Evening; staff certainly valued to opportunity to talk about how pupils can best prepare themselves in the remaining few weeks with their teachers, and at home, ahead of their exams.

Our Music Technology and GCSE Drama pupils already have an exam under their belts, and our Art, Craft and Design pupils will take their 10-hour exam next week.  We wish all our pupils the very best as the exam season gets underway.

House Assemblies have taken place this week to celebrate pupils’ and staff’s efforts in securing house points and raising money for their house charity in the process.  Pupils were also told about the upcoming challenges with each house aiming to secure the top spot with their number of house points and an afternoon of fun and entertainment at the end of the year.

As we move into the final week of the Spring Term, can we remind parents and carers that school closes for the Easter holiday at 1515 on 5 April 2019 and re-opens to pupils on Tuesday 23 April 2019.  We wish all of our pupils and their parents and carers a lovely Easter break.

An Evening of Jazz and Entertainment

With tables dressed and the lighting set, on Thursday our Events Hall was transformed into our Jazz Café – an evening of musical entertainment, inspiration and creativity.  Our ‘customers’ were certainly not disappointed.  With a number of musicians and vocalists performing several pieces of music at the same time as artists creating jazz inspired works of art, the evening was a truly special one.  The pupils and staff in the Music and Art Departments worked hard to pull together a magical evening with pupils demonstrating their enormous talent both on and off the stage.

Year 7 Trip to Southampton City Art Gallery

This week has seen the Year 7 annual trip to Southampton City Art Gallery.  Pupils spent the day taking part in workshops which included sculpting a wire tree and exploring the Pop Art work of Michael Craig-Martin.  This year we were fortunate to be able to visit the exhibition of drawings by none other than Leonardo da Vinci.  As part of the 500th anniversary of his death, HRH Queen Elizabeth has lent her personal collection of his works to galleries across the nation.  This was a once in a lifetime opportunity for pupils to see the magnificent anatomical drawings of da Vinci, whom they have been studying in their renaissance project in History.  Pupils enjoyed gaining an insight into displays of art works and also took part in a guided tour of the gallery by a professional art historian.  All gallery staff praised the pupils on their active participation and engagement throughout the day.

Fareham Schools Debating Competition

Friday 22 March was a great day for Cams Hill Debating Duo – Catrin Gibbard and Amy Lobo at this local competition held at Fareham College.  The girls were joined by their 13 fellow Year 8 pupils, who had worked hard with them to develop their speeches and prepare for the competition.  All of the pupils have spent weeks working on their arguments with Mrs Jones and Mrs Greenfield.  Cams Hill proposed that “Video Games Contribute to Violence.”  Catrin was first up and confidently delivered a wonderful first speech against a team from Fareham College (due to the original opposing school pulling out at the last minute).  Amy completed her speech with equally strong arguments.  Both girls made several interjections against the opposing side who struggled to reply to them.  The local MP for Fareham, Suella Braverman, complimented the girls on their confident presentation and well researched arguments.  After much debate by the four judges, Cams Hill was awarded a well-deserved second place out of six schools.  Our pupils were a credit to Cams Hill and the experience is one they will long-remember.

 

Year 10 Work Experience

Our Year 10 pupils will be embarking on their week of work experience on Monday 1 April.  They will gain priceless experience to add to their CVs and an understanding into the differences and similarities between school life and employment.  Pupils remaining in school will be off timetable and having a varied week to also give those pupils meaningful encounters with employers and further education providers.

Ski Trip 2019

Ski 2019 departs on Friday 5 April 2019!  We are embarking on a journey to Austria to experience the slopes of the Kitzenhorne Glacier.  During our stay we will ski, go bowling, swimming and will watch an ice hockey match.  You can follow us on twitter @CamsHillPE.

Kindness Ambassadors Visit to Carleen Care Home – written by Hannah Gamblin 8C

On Tuesday 26 March 2019, Cams Hill Kindness Ambassadors visited the residents of Carleen Care Home to spread the kindness and Easter cheer.  The pupils participated in colouring-in, games and crosswords with the residents and talked about their school days and hobbies.  An incredibly uplifting and enjoyable time was had by all.

Foodbank and Bottle Top Competitions

The Kindness Ambassadors did a brilliant job in assemblies last week promoting these two house/kindness competitions.

The foodbank collection is only running until the last day of this term.  Any tins/dried food/toiletries that pupils can bring in would be most welcome and much needed for the local foodbank.  These can be placed in the box in reception.

Milk bottle tops/coffee jar lids/laundry detergent lids can also be placed in the boxes in reception; there is one box for each house.  This is an ongoing competition, so start collecting!

Cams Hill is full of brilliant, kind and caring pupils and it would be brilliant for everyone to get involved in helping the environment and the community.
