Autumn is in the air! We have certainly enjoyed some beautiful sunny mornings but they are definitely now beginning to get a little chillier. We have two weeks left in school ahead of the October half term holiday with pupils breaking up at 1515 on Friday 19 October. Don’t forget, pupils return on Tuesday 30 October 2018; the school is closed to pupils on 29 October 2018 owing to the INSET Day.

 

Meet and Greet and Safe Travel to School

You may have seen school staff on duty in the mornings, wearing their high viz orange jackets; exchanging a good morning with the pupils as they make their way into school is the best way to start the day.

It is wonderful to see that so many of our pupils travel to school on foot and on their bicycles. We ask parents and carers to support us in keeping the pupils safe by meeting the school requirement to wear cycle helmets and insisting that they use the controlled crossing points on the A27 dual carriageway. We also ask cyclists and pedestrians to be mindful of each other when using the dual cycle and pedestrian track.

 

Pupil Voice

The first School Council meeting of the year took place on Thursday morning with pupil representation from all tutor groups across the school. This is led by Mrs Newman (Associate Assistant Headteacher) with Mrs Harrison-Jones (Headteacher) and Mrs Williams (Chair of the Governing Body) in attendance.

A visitor from Hampshire County Council invited our pupils to get involved in an air quality project collecting samples, recording results and creating a campaign to make our air cleaner. 20 pupils have already put themselves forward for this.

Mrs Jones (Teacher of RS) introduced the first charity fundraising project for the council called the Smile Train, an international charity to help children with a cleft palate. To earn house points, pupils can collect 2p pieces to build the biggest 2p trail with money raised going towards each house charity as well as the Smile Train. It costs £150 for cleft palate treatment so for £1 worth of 2p pieces per pupil we could fund four cleft palate treatments, with around £150 towards each house charity. Please scour the house for loose change!

It was a fabulous meeting and so lovely to see pupils from different year groups working together. We’re looking forward to more projects and events throughout the year.

 

Year 7 Snapshots and Settling-In Evening

All Year 7 pupils will be bringing home today their ‘Year 7 Snapshot’ which indicates how they have settled into each of their subjects. This is followed by our Settling-In Evening with an opportunity for some 1:1 time with your child’s tutor. If you are a Year 7 parent/carer and have yet to book in to meet with your child’s tutor you can still do this by following this link: https://camshillschool.parentseveningsystem.co.uk/

A Palace Visit

Year 8 enjoyed a real Tudor experience this week when they visited Hampton Court. They attended two workshops where they handled medieval objects and discussed whether or not to execute various members of the Royal family – that is, the Tudor one! They also had the chance to explore the Palace’s rooms and many went on a hunt to ask various guides about the haunted areas – however, disappointingly, not one ghost was seen or heard.
