Weekly Message
We would like to remind you that the changed timings during the school day will continue until 15 June. This is to accommodate the large number of GCSE exams that are taking place. Every morning, Year 11 pupils have come in early to take advantage of the pre-exam warmup sessions as well as the free breakfast provided by the school: bananas; cereal bars; and water are all available to help them sit their exams properly fuelled.
The Years 7 and 8 cricket teams were both successful against Brune Park this week – congratulations to all of the boys who took part. There were also sporting successes for pupils who attended an inter-schools athletics competition at the Mountbatten Centre on Wednesday – well done to Nicole Ainsworth in the 1500m, Saffron Moore in the 800m, Elliott Evans in the 80m hurdles, and Phoebe March in the hammer. All of these pupils won their events.
On Tuesday, pupils took part in a Duke of Edinburgh walk to Portchester Castle. This was a preliminary walk, to help them get used to the demands of the longer walks that will follow. Thank you to Mr Townsend and Mr Sanders for arranging this.

Outstanding Results in the Junior Maths Challenge
The Junior Maths Challenge results have arrived this week and there are some amazing scores. Our pupils achieved a total of 43 certificates including 7 gold, 15 silver and 21 bronze. Best in Year 8 was Saranne Charlton (83 points) with other golds from Isaac Smith and Hussain Khedepa. Best in Year 7 won’t come as a surprise, if you have read earlier reports this year, (Shayne Wood) with a very high score of 135. However, another Year 7 also performed exceptionally well, achieving a score of 120 points, namely William Begg. Both these boys have qualified for the Maths Olympiad Round which means they ranked in the top 500 in the country! Other golds in Year 7 were achieved by Jason Nash (93 points) and Alistair Warren. Saranne and Jason have both qualified for the Kangaroo round of the competition which takes place next month.
Congratulations to all our certificate winners (listed below) and to the rest for taking part in the competition.

Year 10 Textiles Challenge
Pupils were given the challenge of creating an interesting three dimensional garment out of different types of paper. They had a very short time frame to complete the garment so speed and team work were critical! There was a lot of determination, focus and laughter. The results were amazing.

Exhibition Success for Mrs Hiron
Congratulations to Mrs Hiron whose Art work has been selected for exhibition in London. She entered a competition, sponsored by Hobbycraft, to submit mixed media work and her work will be on display at the Menier Gallery from the 26th to the 29th of June. As some of you may be aware the Art Department will sadly be losing Mrs Hiron at the end of the Summer so that she can pursue her creative adventures. We are very proud of her and look forward to hearing all about how she gets on in this competition.

From 12 January baguettes will be reduced to 55p (was 60p), but if butter is required the cost will be increased to 65p.

A polite reminder to parents/carers – please ensure that all property is clearly named with the pupil’s name and tutor group.
Various keys, watches and pairs of spectacles are kept in the Medical Room when handed into lost property. When named items are handed in to the Medical Room Form Tutors are notified by e-mail or printed slips, which are sent in school registers, to ask pupils to come and collect the items.
